Planning an Outdoor Wedding

Expect the unexpected. With some creativity, planning and foresight, the adventurous couple can have the wedding of their dreams.

1. Consider your wedding date and the appropriate outdoor setting to include the climate

2. Make a list of possible locations and remember outdoor sites get booked up far in advance.

3. Take the time to visit each location on your list. Consider the weather - mosquitoes - any work being done in the area - do planes fly frequently overhead?

4. Check to site rules such as noise restrictions? Ask abot all costs, such as use-permit fees for public spaces.

5. Will your chosen location create special challenges or extra expenses for your vendors? Consider hiring vendors who already have outdoor-wedding experience.

6. An outdoor wedding does not necessarily translate into less cost.

7. Calculate the costs of outfitting an outdoor site before you choose a location. Will you need a tent or tables and chairs that will not sink in the soft ground? Wooden chairs rather than metal seats tend to absorb heat and cold.

8. Have a backup site ready. Make a note on the invitation: "In case of rain, please join us at ... "

9. Make your guests comfortable. It is a celebration. make a checklist of rental items you may need such as chairs, tables, linens, an electric generator, a dressing trailer, a portable dance floor and portable toilets. If you are using a wedding planner; a list of proven companies for you to select from will be provided for you early in the planning stages.

10. Consider guest parking. Hiring a valet service or shuttle bus to assist with parking may turn a nightmare into a treet for your guest. A clear indication that the bride and bridegroom are considerate of their guests.

11. Consider the location of the sun at the time of your ceremony.

12. Create a central location where guests readily recognize that it will be used to gather for the cutting of the cake, dancing, bouquet tossing and so forth.

13. String lights between trees, hang lanterns in the branches, rent sspotlights or scatter scores of votive candles - be creative and romantic.
