The Military Is Owed Our Respect

Our military personnel is owed our respect and gratitude; having dutifully paid for the pursuit of freedom, with strife, life and limb. The seventeen to twenty-five year old Vietnam Veterans left fresh faced; but returned as soldiers, casualties of war. Their faces drawn having witnessed and experienced atrocities no one should endure.

Many, who jeered the returned military personnel, would never experience the loneliness, hopelessness, extreme environmental conditions and fear these young soldiers bore in their stead. We owe the highest esteem to those who travel to distant lands and endure the hardship of war, preserving the homeland, peace and liberty we often take for granted.

These returning soldiers were our grandchildren, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, who had joined, or at the time, some were drafted to the service of our country.

Americans do not welcome the thought of war. We as a nation should whole heartedly support our men and women who have been called to serve our country and protect freedom around the world.

The "Call to Arms" is a last resort, given a choice.

The world's 2,792 sons and daughters intentionally murdered in the Twin Towers were given no choice. WMD

92 on American Airlines Flight 11: were given no choice. WMD

65 on United Airlines Flight 175: were given no choice. WMD

64 on American Airlines Flight 77: were given no choice. WMD

40 on Flight 93: were given no choice. WMD

124 ground at The Pentagon: were given no choice. WMD

17 fallen sailors on the "Cole" : were given no choice, while top deck was halted from firing on a foreign vessel. WMD

Our enlisted men and women do not enjoy fighting terrorist in Iraq. Many have endured two tours of duty. They would rather be back in the US enjoying the rights and freedom preserved generation after generation with our blood.

This time it should be different. The American Soldier does not declare war; but rather fights in the trenches hoping only to return home alive.

Todd Beamer and others understood and answered the "Call to Arms" knowing the sacrifice of their lives as do those ferreting terrorist. This generation will clearly know sacrifice. By example, we owe them honor.

You may have received, as did I, email circulating about Cindy Sheehan, the media-dubbed "Peace Mom". The email Subject: Do You Know What This Picture Is? or This'll make your blood boil. The email stated the media dubbed "Peace Mom" has not bothered to place a tombstone at Spc. Casey Sheehan's final resting place.
