NAGS HEAD, North Carolina - The Town of Nags
Head's Police Division announces that Police Officer Shawn D. McKimmey
has become the third Nags Head Police Officer to complete the State of
North Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Traffic Enforcement and
Investigation Program. This prestigious program required successful
completion, over a three year period, of over 500 hours of mandatory
training and study in many traffic enforcement/investigation and safety
disciplines. Some of these required courses of study include:
At-Scene Crash Investigation
Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation
Traffic Crash Reconstruction
Pedestrian Crash Investigation
Aggressive Driving Enforcement
Traffic Crashes & Insurance Fraud
Terrorism Awareness and Drug Enforcement for Police Officers
Officer McKimmey, employed in the Nags Head Police Division's Patrol
Unit since November 2003, becomes only the 60th police officer in North
Carolina to successfully complete this Traffic Enforcement and
Investigation Program. Three of those sixty police officers who have
completed the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Program have been
Nags Head police officers.
The skills Officer McKimmey now possesses, by his completion of this
program, have been and will be put to use many times in the future in
Nags Head. In addition, Officer McKimmey has recently been
presented with his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate by the North
Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
This advanced Law Enforcement Certificate is only awarded to those
officers who have attained the highest training and educational
objectives commensurate with the role of a professional criminal justice
officer. The awarding of this Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate also
recognizes his personal devotion and service to the public.
Officer McKimmey has been a police officer for over seven years. He
previously served as a police officer with the Plymouth, North Carolina
Police Department.

given and every task he undertakes," said Nags Head Public Safety
Director Charles L. Cameron. "He is a credit to both the law
enforcement profession and the Nags Head Police Division."
